Dear Chris,
I always loved your cover songs. I loved how you continued to pay tribute to musicians you loved, through song. You never acted like you were better than the original artist, in fact, most of the time you acted like you weren’t even worthy of playing their songs, which couldn’t be further from the truth. I just think it’s so great that you paid tribute to other fantastic musicians, like many have done with you. One of my favorite covers is River of Deceit. I think you did such a good job at this. I could go on and on about all the others I love – ok I will. For example:
- “I Will Always Love You”
- “No One Compares 2 U”
- “A Day in the Life”
- “Billie Jean”
- “Thank You”
- “One”
- “Satisfied Mind”
- ALL OF THE MLB/MAD SEASON covers
I could go on an on… and on and on… and on. But I won’t. Chris, your musical and poetic genius is one that I will never be able to fully comprehend. If I could, I would become a college professor with a course titled something like “The music and poetry of Chris Cornell.” I’m sure others would do the same for Soundgarden.
Thanksgiving just came and went. I can say I’m very thankful to have met you. I’m so thankful I was able to tell you how much your music means to my life, and to give you gifts. They pale in comparison to what you’ve given me and your many other fans.
It’s been six months, Chris, and I’d give anything to have you back with us.
Your fan forever,
Emily
